I WANT TO ORDER MY LUNCH

The College Canteen provides a complete service to students. Lunches are ordered
between 8.30 and 8.50 each morning. Drinks, fruit and a limited range of confectionery
are available, as well as rolls, sandwiches, pies, pasties, hot dogs and sausage rolls. Ice
cream is available at recess and lunchtime.

I FORGET MY LUNCH OR MONEY

Do not approach the canteen. There is no credit at the
canteen. See your Pastoral Care teacher or level coordinator
who will advise you on what to do.

I MISS THE BUS

You should report to your Co-ordinator who will phone
home to arrange for your family to collect you from
College.

I AM LATE

If you are late to school you must report to the College
Attendance Officer. The Late Pass must be shown to the
class teacher upon your arrival and must then be signed
by your parents and returned to your Home group Teacher
the following day.

All students at Hoppers Crossing Secondary College
are required to supply written documentation from their
parent/guardian, explaining why they are late to school.
Where legitimate documentation exists, then no further
consequence will be required. However if there is no
legitimate reason provided by the student, then
further consequences will be implemented.

Students who arrive late to school without a
legitimate reason on two or more occasions in a
Term, will receive an Official College detention.

I WANT TO GO HOME FOR LUNCH

The College offers a canteen service each day and as
lunch is only for 45 minutes, all students are expected
to remain at school for lunch.

For exceptional circumstances, parents requesting
students home at lunchtime need to make an
appointment with the Level Manager.

I NEED TO PHONE HOME

You should consult with your Year Level Co-ordinator
who will arrange for you to make the phone call if it is
absolutely necessary. Forty-five (45) cents will be
required for the cost of the call.

Under no circumstances may you leave the College
grounds to use a public phone.

I MUST BRING A MOBILE PHONE TO SCHOOL

Students, who have a genuine reason for bringing
mobile phones to school, must bring a written request
signed by a parent/guardian, stating the period for
which the phone is necessary. This should be addressed
to the appropriate Level Manager.

Students should observe normal etiquette with regard
to the use of mobile phones, and they should not be
turned on in class time. We urge students to use
Message Bank if messages need to be taken during
class time.

The College is unable to guarantee the safety of a
student’s mobile phone at school and remind you that
it is brought at your own risk.
If a student breaches this policy then parents will be
advised and the student will not be permitted to bring
a phone to school.

I FEEL ILL IN CLASS

Ask your teacher for an Out of Class Pass, then go to
the General Office where the First Aid person or the
appropriate member of staff will be contacted. The
College will then usually contact your parents, or if the
illness/injury is serious, an ambulance will be called. Your
parents are advised to take out Ambulance insurance.

Remember we have First Aid supplies only. You should
not come to College if you feel unwell in the morning.

I GET LOST AROUND THE COLLEGE

Ask someone, preferably a teacher, who will put you
on the right track, and help with any problems you
might have with reading the timetable and so on.

I LOSE SOMETHING

Mr. Rapisarda looks after lost property in D5.
All items named will be returned wherever possible. If
you find an item of property, please hand it in
immediately.

I NEED TO BUY SECOND HAND UNIFORM OR BOOKS

The Second hand Uniform and Book Shop operates
from 9.00am to 3.00pm, usually on Monday.

I WANT TO USE THE INTERNET

You can use the College computer facilities for e-mail
and research. The College is, in the first instance,
connected to a controlled and cost effective system
called the Educache, provided by the Department of
Education Employment & Training. If the Educache
cannot provide the needed services then classes and
individual students can access the world wide web. To
use any of these services students and parents must
have completed the College Internet Acceptable
Usage Policy declaration. Students can apply for a
personal e-mail address.

I FORGET MONEY FOR ACTIVITIES

You should first tell the teacher in charge of the Activity
who may give you permission to participate, on the
understanding that you will pay the money on the next
school day.

If this is not possible, you should then approach your
Year Level Co-ordinator who will make the appropriate
arrangements.

However, if you do not return a Permission Form to
attend outside College activities, you will not be
permitted to attend. Permission of parents cannot be
accepted over the telephone.

HAVE A DOCTOR’S OR DENTAL APPOINTMENT

If this situation is absolutely unavoidable, you must
bring a note to your Year Level Co-ordinator before
school, signed by one of your parents, setting out
the time of the appointment and when you expect
to return to College. The Co-ordinator will sign the
note.

You must then present the note at the Office when
you are leaving and sign the Early Leavers Book. You
must sign it if you return on that day.

SOME OF THE ITEMS ON MY BOOKLIST ARE PAID FOR, BUT NOT SUPPLIED

See your Level Co-ordinator to find out if they have
any information. Further advice can be given from
the General Office or the College Shop.

I HAVE BEEN ABSENT

All students must attend regularly and punctually.
School attendance is compulsory up to 15 years of
age.

To help the College discharge its responsibility to
parents and to help pupils, all absences from College
must be explained by a note to the Pastoral Care
Teacher, which is then recorded in the Master Roll.
All notes are to be given to the Pastoral Care Teacher
during Pastoral Care Assembly.
Always include the date and a valid reason for your
absence.

I AM ABSENT FROM SCHOOL FOR MORE THAN TWO DAYS

Ask your parents to contact the College to inform
your Co-ordinator. They can then arrange for work
to be sent home. A written explanation from parents
must be supplied on return to College.

I FORGET MY PHYS. ED SPORT GEAR

This is a problem for you to sort out with the Phys.
Ed. staff. Constant failure to bring the correct uniform
will not be tolerated.

I WANT TO BORROW A LIBRARY BOOK

Each student is issued with an I.D. Card with
student’s photo. They must present this card when
borrowing books from the Library.

Students who do not return books punctually, will
lose their rights to borrow any library material at all
until the books are returned.

I WANT TO VOICE MY OPINION ON AN ISSUE

Students are always encouraged to voice their
opinions. This is perhaps best done through Student
Leaders. You may also discuss issues with Pastoral
Care Teachers and Level Co-ordinators.

I RIDE MY BICYCLE TO COLLEGE

Bicycle enclosures and bicycle racks are provided by
the College, but it is each student’s responsibility to
provide an adequate locking device. You should store
your bicycle in the enclosure provided. As is the Law
students riding bicycles must wear an approved
helmet.

Please note that students are not permitted to loiter
in the area of the bicycle racks or enter the enclosure
during the day. If going home for lunch, do not place
your bicycle in the enclosure as it will only be opened
at the end of the day.

IF SOMEONE BULLIES ME, THREATENS ME OR I FEEL HARASSED

Report the problem immediately to your Year Level
Co-ordinator or Pastoral Care Teacher. The longer you
wait to lodge a complaint, the more difficult it will be
for the Co-ordinator to help you solve your problem.

I HAVE A NEED TO TALK TO SOMEONE WHO HAS THE TIME TO LISTEN TO ME

You are welcome to talk to your Pastoral Care
Teacher, Level Co-ordinator, the Student Welfare Coordinator
or any other teacher with whom you feel
comfortable. They will be able to refer you to speak
with others if necessary.

You may wish to talk to people outside the College,
then you can ring Kids Helpline which is available 24
hours a day, 7 days a week.

Calls are free on 1800 551 800.

I AM LEAVING COLLEGE

In this case, you must bring a note from one of your
parents/guardians, explaining why you are leaving
the College – either to go to another school, or to
seek employment. The note should be shown to
your Level Co-ordinator and then passed on to one
of the Assistant Principals. You will then be given an
Exit Form which you will need to complete and have
signed by one of your parents/guardians.

I DRIVE MY CAR TO COLLEGE

If you have a Driver’s Licence you may drive your car
to College. However, you may not have any other
students as passengers in your car. Students are not
permitted to park their cars in the College Car Park.
